Accessibility Statement

This site should be readable and operable by as many people as possible, on whatever device and with whatever assistive technology they use. Accessibility was treated as part of building it rather than as a pass at the end, and it remains ongoing work rather than a finished task.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, at level AA, were used as the design target throughout. We have not commissioned an independent audit or a formal accessibility conformance report.

• Semantic HTML with a single h1 per page and headings in sequence, so screen-reader navigation by heading works.
• A skip link to main content, and landmarks for header, navigation, main and footer.
• Full keyboard operation of the navigation, mega menus, mobile drawer and all forms, including Escape to close and focus returned to the trigger.
• A visible focus indicator on every interactive element, which is never removed for aesthetic reasons.
• Text contrast at or above 4.5:1, and non-text contrast for form borders and controls at or above 3:1.
• Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels, with spacing between adjacent controls.
• Form fields with persistent visible labels, helper text, and errors placed at the field and linked to it programmatically.
• Status and severity conveyed by text or icon as well as colour, never by colour alone.
• Full support for prefers-reduced-motion: transitions and reveal animations are removed rather than merely shortened.
• Layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling from 320 pixels upward, and that tolerate text scaled to 200 per cent.
• Alternative text on meaningful images, and decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology.

Some components have not been tested with every combination of browser and screen reader, and interactive tools such as the calculator are more complex than static text and therefore more likely to contain an unnoticed barrier. Content added in future may temporarily fall short of the standard set here.

We would rather list this than imply the site is finished. If you find something, it is a defect and we will treat it as one.

Email with the page address, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. Mentioning your browser and any assistive technology helps, but is not required — a plain description is enough.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within one business day. If you need information from this site in a different format while a fix is pending, ask and we will provide it.

Accessibility is checked as part of ongoing changes to the site rather than on a fixed schedule, and this statement is updated when what it describes changes.
